BIO

Laurens Miller, born in 1984 in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a visual artist based in his hometown. Working primarily with aerosol, airbrushed acrylic, and oil paints on paper, canvas, and wood panel, Miller fuses graffiti and cubist techniques within a framework rooted in abstract expressionism. He is best known for his abstract textual works rendered in vivid color, often featuring geometric motifs.

Miller’s practice centers on the search for universal beauty, approached through a disciplined exploration of letter structures using straight lines and circles. His work is characterized by a precise yet expressive visual language that merges structure with abstraction. This emphasis on structure and discipline derives from his military service as an Army Medic. As a young adult, his fascination with urban art, graffiti, and filmmaking manifested during which he along with friends submitted short films for local film competitions. A notable project, the film 2550 Mark My Words (2025), documents his discovery of a unique method for transcribing provocative phrases through geometric forms—an insight gained during solo expeditions into lush, coastal, and treacherous natural environments of Hawai’i Island.

Laurens Miller has exhibited his work in various settings, most notably in a solo exhibition at Blank Canvas in Honolulu, United States. His paintings have been included in both public and private collections, and his contributions continue to reflect a dynamic engagement with abstract and urban-inspired art practices.
